W.A.T.-Defreeze Live (Netherlands, 1983)

My watch is full of water, I have a really sweet tan and about a million bug bites which must mean one thing:  my lonnnnnnnng weekend is over!!!  It's time to get back to business.  I have a lot of writing and editing still to do for the zine and I must admit I am getting a bit stressed out as my deadline inches closer.

This song has nothing to do with any of that.   But, it will mark the first live track featured on the blog.  Usually, I hate live recordings despite the fact I really prefer things sounding totally blown out.  This song is an exception to the rule.  I love this version and I think it is worlds better than anything they recorded in the studio.   If you want a little band history you can go: HERE.  Otherwise, here's a catchy version of "Defreeze" live by W.A.T.

Pink, Plastic & Panties-Bla Bla 7" (Netherlands, 1980)

So, here's a little ditty I have been keeping to myself, for very selfish reasons.  Of the hundreds of bands I have on my list to track down for the zine, this group has always been at the top of the list.  Unfortunately,  the attempts to find them have, up to this point, been fruitless.  Hence, I am sharing this with you now.  It's not my little secret anymore.  Now, it's OUR little secret.

So, enjoy the Pink, Plastic & Panties!

Toni Basil-I'm 28/Breakaway 7" (US 1966)

Wow, it's been a minute since I checked in and I thought I would celebrate my return by breaking protocol yet again and giving you this little ditty from 1966 by none other than Toni Basil!  Far before she got her mind blown by that fine "Mickey" fellow, she released a single on A&M that was pretty amazing but largely forgotten.  Here's the b-side "I'm 28."

Now, many of you have been asking me how the zine is coming along and I keep telling you "Fine, fine."  Which is true.  Good news is, I have an official release date, August 11th.   And, if you are in the Montreal area you can come to the Sad Boys matinee show for the zine official release celebration. For now, enjoy the tunes!

Anne Cessna & Essendon Airport-Talking To Cleopatra 7" (Australia, 1980)

Here are a couple of jams from the collaboration between Essendon Airport and Anne Cessna.  The official Australian Innocent label catalog from 1981 stated this record was "A hit single with no target to hit. This could be the start of a beautiful friendship."  It may well have resulted in a friendship but no further records were put out featuring this grouping.  Upon further investigation, I have turned up little to no information about Anne Cessna herself.  So, if anyone out there has any info and wants to make my life a little easier pass it along.  In the mean time, enjoy both sides of the single "Talking to Cleopatra/Lost In Madagascar"

The Poppy Family-That's Where I Went Wrong (Canada, 1971)

Now, I know what you are going to say.  Not only is this band pop-country, far outside of my wheelhouse, this album was put out in 1971!  That is far before the cut-off date this blog claims to cover.  But, listen to what I have to say: it's just SO good and it is always randomly popping into my head when there is rain, or a bus or anything or nothing.  The video accompanying this track is terrible however so just close your eyes and enjoy the sweet, sweet heartbreak of Susan Jacks in The Poppy Family.
