Zéro De Conduite-Je Suis Mort 7" (France, 1984)

No matter how much you know, certain people always make you feel like you don't know a thing. I hung out with one of those friends last night at his birthday party and let him take me to school. Part of my lesson was Zero De Conduite, from France, obviously. They formed in 1982 when they were wee ones, all 12 years old at the time. I can't even remember what I was doing when I was 12 but it wasn't putting out records and making music videos. Their first single, Je Suit Mort, which translates to "I am dead", came out in 1984 and by 1990 the band was over with a handful of singles and an LP.

Here are both sides of the first single, the B-side of which is an amazing music video/interview with the kids.

Family Fodder-Savoir Faire 7" (UK, 1980)

Hey y'all! I am still alive! It has been a minute since I managed to check in here. I got a new job, you may remember me mentioning, which has been taking up ALL of my time. That coupled with a "vacation" back home, I have not had a minute to spare. But, I'm here now, so let's chat. First and foremost, can I say I've missed you? I am really having a hell of an adjustment back into office life and I just wanna go back to my freelance days of baths and listening to random and obscure shit on YouTube all day. Oh well.

Anyway, it's finally summer. It's fucking hot and miserably humid and there aren't enough hours in the day to go swimming as much as one would like. The irony for me is now that I finally have money again, I don't have time to spend it. I did manage to rush over to the record store today on my lunch break and this little gem was waiting for me. Seemed like fate that I should get my ass in gear and do a post about it. So, without further ado, Family Fodder. I have liked this band for a while as they shared, at least at one point, members with People in Control who you may remember from this post I did a while back: HERE. Either way, this group has been around a long time and somewhat surprisingly, they are still active, putting out new records and touring. You can keep up with them on their page HERE and go see them early next year if you are out Europe way. They have about a million records and I can't personally vouch for ALL of them but if your leanings are a bit artsy and British-of-that-era, by all means give them a listen, starting here with this song that has just been killing me called Savoir Faire from their 1980 7" of the same name and also appearing on the album Monkey Banana Kitchen, out the same year.

Anyway, I hope to be back soon. Things are quieting down as far as shows go for a bit and everyone is going on vacation so I'll try to get you some nice, obscure 80's summer jams in the near future!
Love,
Megon

Hilary Laddin-The Sell 7" (US, 1980)

It's a wonder at the end of some days I don't just fall over, dead, on the floor in a puddle of my own drool. Today is one of those days. Work was gruelling and I was just not expecting that.  My eyes are completely glazed over and I feel like if I actually close them, they will never have the power to open again. Otherwise, so far, it's been a lovely week with a helluva weekend coming up. Loads of friends in town including my German bestie who brought me presents including a Christmas pyramid and some hand cream/shampoo, not sure which because I can't read German.  And, starting tomorrow, there are a bunch of shows including, but not limited to, Tropic of Cancer on Saturday with our dear friends Police Des Moeurs opening.

ANYWAY, y'all don't really care about any of that. You just want the songs, right? Well, here's one for you, going back to my roots with some pics to boot. A little jammy jam from Hilary Laddin, who also drummed in the band The Leaving Trains, whom you may remember. This is not like that and I like it way better. Here are both sides to her only solo single The Sell, released in 1980 on What Records? most famous for a couple Dils and Germs records that were KINDA popular, or something, I don't know. Unfortunately, Hilary passed away in 2007 but this is still a pretty rad record that deserves more light of day.

Alright, I'm wiped. Talk to you after the weekend.
LOVE!!!

Peggy & The Pils-Nobody's Bride (Italy, 1985) & De Cylinders-I Wanna Get Married (Holland, 1980)

As always, it's been a crazy day around here.  I'm just finding time to kick back and relax now, killing my champagne buzz with beer, writing some emails and listening to some music.  Some subconscious spark of genius inspired me to pair up these two little gems.  So, for you now Dutch group De Cylinders with I Wanna Get Married out on CNR in 1980.  This has since been reissued by Sing Sing, those lovely gents who recently brought you the Lost Kids and Shivvers reissues.  Or, if you wish, our reputable and Pink, Plastic & Panties loving friends over at No Brains Mailorder can get you an original for a bit of coin HERE.

Secondly, darling, precious Peggy and the Pils with Nobody's Bride from their 1985 12" EP of the same name. I have never seen this one fail to move a stagnant DJ night or bring a smile to the face, for that matter. Sadly, Peggy Richardson passed away a few years back but by all accounts this record is not hard to track down even still, especially on the continent.  You can read a bit about it HERE. And, here's a very charming live performance which I'm pretty sure was recorded at a shopping mall. Fuck, she's cute.

Ok, got other stuff to do with this fine Saturday night. Have a good remainder of the weekend.
XOXO

The Brat-The Wolf (US, 1983)

Happy Thanksgiving to all of y'all back in the States.  When I realized what today was, this seemed the perfect song to celebrate to.  I haven't listened to The Brat very much in recent years as they are a super nostalgic band for me, and not really in a good way.  I am glad to say, I feel I am ready to reintroduce them back into my semi-regular rotation.

This song in particular was not on the band's 1980 debut EP Attitudes but appears on the 1983 comp Los Angelinos.  It has also recently been reissued on a single, but you'll have to track that down on your own with no help from me, I'm nice but not THAT nice.  As far as the comp is concerned, it is pretty easy to find and is always usually between $10-15 so I would recommend finding that as you'll get rad tracks from The Plugs and other East LA bands as well.  Ok, off to work for me.
XOXO

Pink, Plastic & Panties-Bla Bla 7" (Netherlands, 1980)

So, here's a little ditty I have been keeping to myself, for very selfish reasons.  Of the hundreds of bands I have on my list to track down for the zine, this group has always been at the top of the list.  Unfortunately,  the attempts to find them have, up to this point, been fruitless.  Hence, I am sharing this with you now.  It's not my little secret anymore.  Now, it's OUR little secret.

So, enjoy the Pink, Plastic & Panties!

Q4U-Boring (Iceland, 1980)

So, if you know me very well, you will know I am kinda obsessed with Dark Entries Records right now and out of all their releases and re-releases this is one of my favorites.  I play it a lot and everyone always asks me "Who is this?" "Where are they from?" and then I say "Iceland."  Magical, Icelandic, synth-driven punk.  And, if that wasn't enough, the cover has a nipple on it, so you can file it next to your Ultimo Resorte and Desechables LPs.  Anyway, as always, here's a funny video:

There is an informative and succinct bio on the Dark Entries site: HERE.  Also, if you are REALLY interested (JTA) you can read this interview I ran across: HERE.

Ok, that's all for now.
XOXO

Alright, y'all.  You know this one.  "Let's get. let's get Tammy Wynette!"  In case you don't, here you go:

And here's a funny, albeit lengthy, humorous story about this record by, none other than, Ryan Richardson of Break My Face.  Read the post HERE.

I don't need to say much about this.  UK/German one-woman-band playing some catchy shit.  Check out the songs:
