Risk-Part Time Lover 7" (UK, 198?)

Happy Valentine's Day! Whether you subscribe to the notion of romantic love or not, I hope that you enjoy something that you love today. Perhaps it will even be this song!

Here's another little gem for you sent to us from our like-minded friend Alex over at Girlz on Vinyl. As with my last post, there is little to no info available on this release but the perfect pop vocals, rock leanings and big synth tick all the right boxes for me. I'm gonna put the B-side up first cause I love it just a bit more than the A-side. Gonna keep this short today as I have a lot to catch up on but I'll be back soon with more! (And hopefully more info!)

Ghosts of Dance-Ghosts of Dance 7" (UK, 1982)

This will inaugurate my first post from work. I usually work through lunch but today I'm casting off the corporate shackles and taking a real lunch. I ate sushi and will post this very lovely song I am totally in love with. Obvy, this is one of the new records I got in Toronto and I picked it up at my friend's shop, LP's LPs. If you are ever in the area, I recommend a stop-in.

For now, here is Ghosts of Dance. This single is out on Plastic Canvas Records who only put out one other release, a Severed Head single. As you know, a lot of what I post on here has been covered other places or I can't really find band members of/information on so I just stick it here and hope maybe members will find it. This is a bit of both. Kentucky Fried Wave has a nice blurb about Ghosts of Dance HERE. I do not think the download links are working but if they come back up or I can find another, I will post it here.

Anyway, in some other news, I don't think I am going to be able to make it sadly to the Delphic Oracle show on Friday, but you should. Event info HERE. I know there's a lot of other shows that night around town but this will be nice.

Jeez, half an hour for lunch really flies by. I will talk to y'all soon!

Love,
Megon

Stinky Toys-Plastic Faces LP (France, 1977) & Elli and Jacno-Boomerang LP (France, 1982)

Are y'all ready for Valentine's Day? Have your rose petals scattered to and fro, champagne chilling in the fridge, chocolate fountain filled to the brim? Yeah, me too.  I mean, I usually just recycle the same décor from my celebration of Lincoln's Birthday and no one ever seems to notice. On a more serious note, this week has been crazy. So much awesome tempered by so much not. I think the good is still winning by a fine margin, so that's good, 'spose.

Anyway, my friend Mark as been in a French state of mind and it's got me revisiting a lot of my favourites, including these two.  First up, Stinky Toys with their hit Plastic Faces. I find everything about this video charming. Elli's dancing, how the host delays them and she missed her lip sync cue and the banter is priceless, although, in French.

After Stinky Toys, Elli and Jacno went on to perform together under the name Elli & Jacno, imagine that. They put out three LPs and a load of singles and a simple Google search will bring back a wealth of info on these two sweethearts. Of course, they have great videos, too.

Sorry, I have not been feeling so obscure lately. I will get back to posting things by bands you've NEVER heard of, soon.  I promise. In the mean time, I hope these classics can sustain you. My seeming laziness has good purpose, I assure you.  What little brainpower I have is being directed to something awesome.

Also, a few things for you Montrealers reading out there.  Saturday, there are two shows I can recommend you in good faith. First off, Pypy are playing the TRH Bar.  I have not found a Facebook event for this but you can go to the Pypy FB page HERE or listen to them HERE.

If that doesn't float your boat, if you're more in a mood to rrrioooooottttt, Heathers 1988, Towanda and She Divides are all playing a lady power show HERE. Should not be unfun, or however you wanna say that.

There are also a whole bunch of shows coming up, so stay posted. Things are about to get fun again. We will see Peach Kelli Pop, Pleasure Leftists, Blouse, The Brusque Twins, PDM and Dum Dum Girls in the coming months as well as others, I'm sure. Too bad Belgrado tour was cancelled.  Blah blah anyway, gotta get back to work. This episode of Antiques Roadshow is not gonna watch itself.

Ex Post Facto-Oceanic Explorers 7" (UK, 1982)

So, everyone keeps asking me about about Issue 2 and I promise work continues, slowly.  Actually, I have so much in the works and so many things planned it may just end up being Issue 2 and 3.  But, in the mean time I am just feeling overwhelmed.  Either way, I apologize for the delay. Especially in the light of the feedback and requests I have been getting.

IN THE MEAN TIME, continuing on my theme of very dramatic Mondays, I present you with Ex-Post Facto. You can read a bit about them HERE, and check out the track Oceanic Explorers HERE.  Trust me, you WANT to go listen to this dramatic, crashing synth-goth opus.  Anyway, here's another video if you are feeling just SO lazy you can't follow that link.  This other one is great too, but I LOVE songs about money.

Great City-Great City LP (US, 1986)

It's definitely the kind of day to listen to over-dramatic electro-rock.  Mondays are hard, and they are double-hard after such long weekends.  I am still feeling exhausted, dehydrated and  highly emotional after a weekend that essentially lasted two weeks.  Just have to get through November and I can hibernate till spring.

Anyway, this is Great City.  Not much info about them floating around out there.  If you want to download the album, you can do so HERE, I would recommend it for no other reason than the track Tell Me I'm Yours which is pretty great.  Here are a couple of the other best tracks, I Remember and Too Much Thunder.  Ok, happy Monday to you all, if there is such a thing.

XOXO

W.A.T.-Defreeze Live (Netherlands, 1983)

My watch is full of water, I have a really sweet tan and about a million bug bites which must mean one thing:  my lonnnnnnnng weekend is over!!!  It's time to get back to business.  I have a lot of writing and editing still to do for the zine and I must admit I am getting a bit stressed out as my deadline inches closer.

This song has nothing to do with any of that.   But, it will mark the first live track featured on the blog.  Usually, I hate live recordings despite the fact I really prefer things sounding totally blown out.  This song is an exception to the rule.  I love this version and I think it is worlds better than anything they recorded in the studio.   If you want a little band history you can go: HERE.  Otherwise, here's a catchy version of "Defreeze" live by W.A.T.

Q4U-Boring (Iceland, 1980)

So, if you know me very well, you will know I am kinda obsessed with Dark Entries Records right now and out of all their releases and re-releases this is one of my favorites.  I play it a lot and everyone always asks me "Who is this?" "Where are they from?" and then I say "Iceland."  Magical, Icelandic, synth-driven punk.  And, if that wasn't enough, the cover has a nipple on it, so you can file it next to your Ultimo Resorte and Desechables LPs.  Anyway, as always, here's a funny video:

There is an informative and succinct bio on the Dark Entries site: HERE.  Also, if you are REALLY interested (JTA) you can read this interview I ran across: HERE.

Ok, that's all for now.
