Suzi Hendrix - Zero Zero 7" (UK, 1979)

So, so, so much is changing in my life I can hardly keep up. I am super excited for summer. Loads of friends coming to visit, coming to stay, loaning me their cats temporarily, all topped off by a little trip home at the end of the month. And if everything goes to plan, a trip to London in August to scope out the city for THE BIG MOVE. That's right, you heard it here first, despite everyone's protestations, we are up and moving to the UK. Everyone keeps asking why and there are a million reasons, I can't even specify. But mostly, "Why not?" The land of my favorite bands and records of all time is calling.
And, come on, those accents.

Anyway, here's a little song I have been playing a lot lately. The A-side for one of two singles released by Suzi Hendrix on Radio Records in 1979. Can't wait for my copy to come in the mail.  I know it will probably not provide any more clues to this enigmatic record, but maybe, just maybe I can shake some info loose. In the meantime, you can listen here. I personally think it sounds as good as it looks and it looks pretty awesome.

Anyway, this will be short and sweet as I need all the sleep. As always, I hope to be back soon, and if not, later days!

Love,

The Reactors-World War 4 LP (US, 1980)

It was fun seeing everyone this weekend at Varning Fest.  It went by super fast, maybe because I
sleptthrough some of it.  At any rate, since it appears I just can't get enough, I will be at
Not Dead Yet Festin Toronto this weekend.  Seeing even more people I haven't seen in an
even longer time and maybe some bands too?

Either way, the energy of this song is a good match to how I'm feeling so I give you The Reactors.  This song is super catchy and always pops into my head at the mere mention of any World War.  This was reissued a couple years ago on Artifix Records but as far as I know that repress is long sold out.  You can still read about them on the Artifix website HERE. Or, if you prefer you can read a bit over on Break My Face HERE.

Alright, I hope you had a good weekend and I'll see you down at WW4!

Flowers (UK, 2013) & Flowers (Scotland, 1979)

It's way too early to be alive, but I thought I would make this post that was in my head when I woke up.  Other things in my head when I woke up, the song Clouded Eyes by Chron Gen and some remnants of  crazy dream about World War 13.  Anyway, a friend sent me this first song yesterday and I love the sound.  You can find more from this current London trio Flowers HERE and a bunch of their music HERE.

When I saw the name I thought this new group was the old Scottish band Flowers who you know from several Fast Records comps. As usual, I am not going to say much about this band.  I have a secret plan to do a feature on the Earcom comps in a future issue of the zine so I don't want to ruin the surprise.  All to say, two bands with the same name seemed like a nice way to start the weekend, as Thursday is the new Friday.  Here's my favourite Flowers song from 1979.

Also, a couple little reminders:  I forgot to tell y'all last weekend that Molly Nilsson was playing in Montreal.  And consequently, I forgot to go and have been kicking myself since.  So, don't pull a Megon and forget to go to one of the THREE shows this weekend.

Thursday 17th, Peach Kelli Pop @ Il Motore
Friday 18th, Lebanon Hanover @ Playhouse
Saturday 19th, Marie Davidson @ Casa

Or you can join me early on Saturday at Cafe Atomic for an ODIF DJ set around 10pm.

Ok, happy Thursday!!

Emma Sharpe & The Features-I'm Not Crying (UK, 1979)

Ok, here's another one I have pestered my friends with since I first heard this song.  I still have hopes on this so I'm not going to say a lot but my buddy Sovannak made me a rad video so I could share this with y'all. I am totally obsessed/in love with Emma Sharpe and The Features and you can find most anything you want to know HERE. Ok, countdown is on to the ODIF Montreal Showcase on Thursday.  Going to be a great show and loads of fun.  Hope to see everyone there!

Edith Nylon-Edith Nylon (France, 1979)

Sadly, it appears, I have hit another dead-end in Edith Nylon.  She does not seem to want to talk to me.  But, it doesn't make me love her any less.  I don't know what else to say that won't reveal my despair and heartbreak about being so close to her, yet so far.  First of all, if you are uninitiated, get your dancing shoes on:

Secondly, this track is not only my favorite Edith Nylon song,  this video is taken from one of my favorite movies La Brune Et Moi which is jam packed with loads of awesome ladies including Les Lou's, Ici Paris and Anouschka et Les Privés, much of which, maybe all, appears on the My Girlfriend Was a Punk compliation. Anyway, hope you enjoy!

48 Chairs-Snap It Around 7" (UK 1979)

Yes, I have been busy.  Yes, I have been too busy to post any videos or tell you about any bands.  I am taking a little break from editing, before my head explodes, to reward your patience.  And, I consider this a BIG reward.  So, get ready, here's a song by 48 Chairs.  I have been keeping this one under my hat, waiting, hoping to get confirmation on a couple leads.  But, it would appear the trail has gone cold, for now.  If you don't like this song, then you must not have ears.

This band was part of Absurd Records and you can read all about the label HERE over at D.I.Y. or Die.
I hope you all enjoy this and my slow descent into editing induced madness.  See ya real soon!

The Maps - I'm Talking To You/My Eyes Are Burning (USA, 1979)

I thought I would stop in and give everyone a little update on the print zine. I have been working furiously, emailing, Skyping, writing and researching and everything is coming together for a great first edition! I am not going to ruin the surprises I have in store but I will say while it is Cool To Snog, you wouldn't want anyone to think you're a Raunchette and it's not your Fault 151 for simply being Partners In Crime.  If you break this secret code, you can be my research assistant.

I will blatantly share with you a song very close to my heart right now since my eyes are burning from staring at the computer, and another song for good measure.  No, these are not two identical videos.  It's both sides of the 1979 single from Boston band The Maps.  Enjoy!

Vermilion-Angry Young Women 7" (UK, 1979)

Vermilion was a London based writer and biker babe who appeared in Search & Destroy and the last issue of Ripped & Torn.  Her first 7" came out on Illegal records in 1978 featuring the tunes Angry Young Women, Nymphomania and Wild Boys.   Her only follow-up to this was the 1979 Illegal release featuring I Like Motorcycles and The Letter.   Vermilion was enthusiastic in her belief in a revolution led by bikers, punks and women.   There is no information on her whereabouts today to spice up this book-report bland accounting of her life.  I will keep you posted.  For now, enjoy the pic of her shitting in the sink.  Oh yeah, here's a song:
